TL;DR — Chatous Review
Chatous is a free, anonymous チャット app that pairs you with 見知らぬ人 who share your interest hashtags. It was popular for its simple, interest-led matching and anonymous names, and it supports photos, video and expiring messages. But development appears to have slowed, with the Android app last updated in August 2023, and reviewers report spam, explicit content and slow moderation. Rating: 2.5/5.
- Best for: adults who like interest-based, anonymous text chats on their phone
- 料金： free; optional in-app purchases
- Standout feature: hashtag matching that connects you by shared interests
- Skip it if: you want an actively updated app, strong moderation or a safe space for teens

Chatousとは何ですか？
Chatous is an anonymous chat app developed by Castle Global. Instead of a random roulette, it uses hashtags: you list your interests, and the app connects you with strangers who share them. Display names can be changed at any time and can’t be searched, so you stay anonymous. Chats support text, photos, videos, audio messages that expire, and video chat. It runs as an Android app and on the web at chatous.com.

| Anonymous, unsearchable display names | Reports of spam, scams and explicit content |
| Photos, video and expiring audio messages | Moderation described as reactive rather than proactive |

Chatous は安全に使用できますか?
Chatous is risky for anyone who isn’t careful. Its anonymity makes it easy to chat freely, but store listings rate it for high-maturity content, and independent reviewers report nudity, scam links and spam, with moderation that mostly reacts to reports. Because teens and adults have historically used the same app, it isn’t a safe space for younger users.
- Never share personal details such as your real name, school, workplace, phone number or social media.
- Be cautious with photos and video. Expiring messages can still be screenshotted.
- Don’t click links or move to other apps at a stranger’s request.
- Block and report anyone who sends explicit content or asks for money.
- 18+ recommended. We don’t recommend Chatous for anyone under 18.

Who is Chatous best for?
Chatous suits adults who like chatting by interest rather than at random and are comfortable managing their own safety. And if you’d like to meet someone face to face, our free video chat with strangers needs no sign-up (18+).
Frequently asked questions
Is Chatous free?
Yes. Chatous is free to download and use. It offers optional in-app purchases, but you can match and chat without paying.
Is Chatous still available?
Chatous has been installed more than 10 million times on Android and also works at chatous.com, but its Android app hasn’t been updated since August 2023, so availability and features may vary by region.
How does Chatous matching work?
Chatous matches you with strangers who share your interest hashtags, such as #music or #gaming, so conversations start with something in common.
Is Chatous safe?
Chatous carries real risks. Store listings rate it for high-maturity content and reviewers report spam, scams and explicit content, with moderation that mostly reacts to reports. Keep personal details private and block and report anyone who makes you uncomfortable.
Does Chatous have video chat?
Yes. Alongside text, Chatous supports video chat and lets you send photos, videos and audio messages that expire.
Is Chatous suitable for teenagers?
We don’t recommend it. Chatous has a high-maturity store rating, a mixed-age audience and reports of explicit content, so it isn’t a safe space for anyone under 18.
The bottom line
Chatous still has a smart core idea: matching strangers by shared hashtags gives conversations a head start. But with its Android app unchanged since August 2023, a high-maturity rating and reports of spam and explicit content, it’s hard to recommend over newer, better-moderated chat apps. Use it with care if you’re an adult; otherwise, look elsewhere. Our rating: 2.5/5.
