What happened to iFriends?

iFriends shut down on October 17, 2018, after 20 years online. Its farewell message blamed the end of US net neutrality rules, new legislation and costly patent litigation, and members who had paid for VIP or fan club memberships in the previous 30 days were promised refunds. Its traffic had already been declining as free-to-watch token sites grew, and many of its performers moved to other platforms.

The best iFriends alternatives in 2026

1. Flirt4Free: closest to iFriends

Flirt4Free is the most natural home for former iFriends members: it has been online since 1996, offers a VIP plan, model fan clubs and a video store, and gives new members 120 free credits. It isn’t the cheapest option, as our Flirt4Free review explains, but it feels the most familiar.

2. MyFreeCams: best community

MyFreeCams has one of the most loyal, long-running communities in the industry, with free public chat and many regular performers. If you liked getting to know models over time on iFriends, start with how MyFreeCams works.

3. Chaturbate: best for free shows

Chaturbate is the best choice if you want lots of free entertainment, since public shows are free to watch and you only spend tokens when you tip. It has a huge, varied roster; see our Chaturbate review for token prices.

4. Stripchat: best for VR and interactive shows

Stripchat combines a large free-to-watch roster with VR cams and interactive toy shows, all paid for with tokens. It’s a modern take on what iFriends offered two decades ago.

5. LiveJasmin: best premium option

LiveJasmin focuses on polished, high-quality private shows. Free previews are limited and private time costs more than on token sites, but it’s the pick if video quality matters most.

6. ImLive: best for veteran cam fans

ImLive is another long-running, credit-based cam site with a wide range of show types, which may appeal to people who preferred iFriends’ older style. Compare it in our ImLive review.

7. Chat to Strangers: best free non-performer option

If you’d rather have a live face-to-face conversation with a real person than watch a performer, our бесплатный чат с камерой connects you with случайный users instantly, with no sign-up and no credits (18+).

How to choose an iFriends replacement

1. Think about what you used iFriends for most: following favourite models, free chat or private shows.
2. Choose Flirt4Free or ImLive if you want a familiar, membership-style cam site.
3. Choose Chaturbate, Stripchat or MyFreeCams if you want free public shows and pay-as-you-go tokens.
4. Search a favourite former iFriends model’s name to see where they broadcast now.
5. Set a spending limit before buying credits or tokens on any site.

Staying safe on cam sites

Established cam sites are generally safe, but take care with look-alike sites using old brand names and protect your privacy.

• Avoid sites using the iFriends name; the original closed in 2018.
• Use a unique password and an email you don’t use for work or banking.
• Never share personal details such as your full name, address or social accounts in chat.
• Set a budget and avoid saving card details if you’re prone to impulse spending.
• 18+ only. Every site in this list is strictly for adults.

Who are these alternatives best for?

Former iFriends members who want the same membership-style experience should start with Flirt4Free, while anyone who wants free shows and flexible spending will be happier on Chaturbate or MyFreeCams. For an even wider comparison, see the best Flirt4Free alternatives.

Frequently asked questions

Is iFriends still running?

No. iFriends.net shut down on October 17, 2018, after launching in 1998. The site redirected visitors to a farewell page and said members who had recently paid for VIP or fan club memberships would be refunded. Other websites using similar names are not the original iFriends.

Why did iFriends shut down?

In its closing announcement, iFriends blamed the end of US net neutrality rules, new legislation and costly patent litigation. Industry coverage also noted that its traffic had been declining for some time.

What is the best iFriends alternative?

Flirt4Free is the closest match for former iFriends users because it is a similarly long-running cam site with VIP memberships and model fan clubs. MyFreeCams suits people who valued iFriends’ community feel, and Chaturbate is the best choice if you want lots of free shows.

Are there free iFriends alternatives?

Yes. Chaturbate, Stripchat and MyFreeCams let you watch public shows for free and only charge when you tip or go private. If you want free one-on-one video chat with ordinary users rather than performers, Chat to Strangers needs no sign-up.

Where did iFriends models go?

When iFriends closed, many performers moved to other cam sites and posted their new homes on their old profiles. Many now broadcast on token-based sites such as Chaturbate, Stripchat and MyFreeCams, or on premium sites such as Flirt4Free and LiveJasmin.

Are these iFriends alternatives safe?

The established sites in this list use encrypted connections and verify performers are adults. Use a unique password, keep personal and payment details private and set a spending limit. All of them are strictly for adults aged 18 and over.

The bottom line

iFriends is gone, closing in October 2018 after two decades, but its style of cam community lives on. Flirt4Free is the closest replacement thanks to its VIP plans and fan clubs, MyFreeCams offers the strongest community, and Chaturbate gives you the most free shows. Pick the one that matches how you used iFriends, set a budget and steer clear of sites trading on the old name.
